Job Summary

YRG CARE is a sub recipient to the GFATM grant for implementation of HIV prevention services among Prisoners, establish one stop centre for KP and engage in activities towards community system strengthening. The overall goal under this grant is to accelerate the national response towards achieving the fast track 95-95-95 targets among KP.

Roles and Responsibilities

Specific roles and responsibilities of Lab-technician broadly include the following:

o Offer screening of HIV, Viral Hepatitis and TB testing on a regular basis (at least 5 days in a week)

o Participate in health camps, mobile medical camps, community based screening and conduct counseling and HIV testing

o Work in close coordination with the Prison and OCS

o Coordinate with DAPCU/ SACS/State TB Cell on the results and follow-up

This task shifting arrangement will ensure HIV testing facilities available for inmates until the services are established within prison settings. In addition to these arrangements, staff available at the prison medical facility will be utilized for the long-term sustainability and cost effectiveness at Central and District Prisons.

Reporting:

o Work with Prison Peer Mobilizer in the respective zone/ state on programmatic issues and report to the State Manager on administrative issues.

o Provide data / information required for preparation of reports.

o Prepare at least 12 health camps per month in coordination with prison authorities

o Maintain records on client services- patients register, follow up register, referrals cards, reconciliation of referral cards, patient cards, health camps/ event reports or any other documents as per requirements.

Qualification and Competencies Required

  • Should poses Diploma or Graduation in Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) with at least 2 years of working experience from public/private laboratories
  • Fundamental understanding and hands-on clinical/bio-medical screening experience of HIV/AIDS, TB, STI, Viral Hepatitis
  • Able to establish networks and coordinate with prison and health officials, YRG Care team and prison inmates towards health screening, diagnosis, result sharing and follow up action
  • Able to coordinate & follow up with prison and public health laboratories for screening
  • Understanding on the ethical aspects of screening, diagnosis and result sharing with prison inmates
  • Willingness to travel within or outside the state for atleast 15 days in a month.
  • Ability to speak, understands, read and writes in Hindi, English and or all the regional languages in the state of operations.

The aim of the Prison component under the project is to scale up HIV, TB, STI and viral hepatitis intervention for incarcerated populations at prisons & closed settings. The intervention would cover 619 prisons and other closed settings across 13 states (08 NE and 05 East India).

The Prison Peer Mobilizer of the Prison intervention will be assisted by a Lab Technician where there are no medical or paramedical staff available for HIV testing. This will be helpful for better performance in the project.
