Job description: The International Water Management Institute (IWMI), a CGIAR Research Center is looking for a competent, self-motivated, and dynamic candidate to join IWMI’s office as the Communication Expert.

The Communication Expert will provide communication support to the SDC-SoLAR project and will closely work with the Regional Project Leader, manage all communications and knowledge management aspects of the SoLAR project, including developing content for the project website and other communication outlets, and development of policy briefs, blogs, newsletters, conferences/workshop/webinar reports etc., based on scientific outputs produced by the project technical team. In addition, the candidate will help the SoLAR Project Leader in planning and coordination of Project outreach and dissemination activities such as regional and national forums.

GENERAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Support the SDC-SoLAR team in all research and policy communications-related activities. In particular, the position holder will:
  • Lead all science communication activities of the SoLAR project in consultation with the in-country research teams. In particular:
  • Write, edit and create content for a quarterly project newsletter and all related coordination work that goes with content creation (e.g., coordination with technical team members to understand content/receive the preliminary draft of content; with IWMI-HQ communications team for dissemination of content etc.).
  • Supervise periodic updates of the SoLAR webpage (including content development) in coordination with the IWMI-IT Team.
  • Conceptualize and coordinate with content developers (videographers, print developers, etc.) to make short films, pamphlets and brochures for outreach, uptake, and impact stories.
  • Supervise the maintenance of a photo repository of SoLAR photos in coordination with country-specific photographers/consultants to ensure the development of a suitable photo gallery.
  • Communicate with IWMI-HQ social media contact person and provide regular updates on IWMI’s social media (Twitter, LinkedIn and Facebook).
  • Coordinate monthly meetings with all IWMI-staff associated with SoLAR project and prepare meeting minutes.
  • Coordinate with journalists and media houses. Maintain a database of all the media-related contacts and liaison with them as and when needed.
  • Liaison with editors, graphic designers and other communications-related consultants.
  • Perform other duties that may be required by SDC – SoLAR Project and IWMI India office.
  • Support the organization of regional events such as a Regional Solar Forum and Regional Trainings
  • Be the one-point logistical contact for all SoLAR Regional Activities, e.g. Annual Regional Forum, Regional Training Workshops
  • Coordination of content development for regional trainings content developers
  • Organization of the multi-country and national-level forums on SoLAR project with support of project management team, including inviting participants, event management, logistic support, etc.
  • Managing conference proceedings and content management from the forum.
  • Coordinate the creation of brochures, pamphlets, communications materials for all SoLAR regional and national events.
  • Contribute to publications, policy briefs, research highlights and media content in relation to the SoLAR project.
  • Engage with key stakeholders in project communication, policy advocacy and dissemination of project outcomes to contribute to development goals.

Requirements

Qualifications, Experience, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Master’s degree in environmental/Social Sciences or other relevant subjects
  • Minimum 5 years of work experience working on climate change, energy, and/or other relevant social-ecological issues.
  • Work experience with domestic and/or international civil society organizations is highly desired.
  • Relevant work experience as a science communicator/writer/researcher with publications records and evidence of writing for a general audience will be preferred.
  • Previous experience in communication, event management and content development will be preferred.
  • Proven ability to write, edit and produce high-quality written content in English based on scientific outputs produced by the project team, with evidence of having published such content in news media, online portals etc.
  • Multi-tasking skills and enthusiasm for working across different sectors will be preferred.
  • Demonstrated organizational skills with the ability to work independently and as part of a multicultural team.
  • Excellent knowledge of MS Office (MS Excel, Word, PowerPoint) and familiarity with communication tools like Canvas.
  • Effective listening skills, and excellent verbal and written communications skills in English.

This is a nationally recruited position and only candidates who are eligible to work in India will be considered. The duration of the contract will be up to the SoLAR project end date of 30 June 2024.
