With production sites in Global Supply, international operations (complex foreign exchange accounting) and complex tax and treasury activities, Diageo’s consolidation is complex, almost every change to IFRS has some impact on Diageo’s accounting and reporting. Organizational context Controllers Group is a global, multi-locational function who deliver end to end financial control for the business, owning the processes that safeguards accurate and compliant reporting of our financials. Our mission is protecting Diageo’s performance through trusted business partnership and wealth of expertise in accurate & compliant Financial Control & Reporting. The function comprises of 1. Regional Finance Controllership – This team are globally responsible of Group reporting preparation, submission and sign-off at Legal entity level, Balance Sheet reviews and review. Statutory reporting and forecasting, Audit coordination. They also have ownership of financial reporting risk and control agenda 2. Group External reporting – They are responsible for Group reporting preparation, submission and sign-off, SEC filings, Financial and Non-Financial reporting. They support new M&As and their integration, new route to market initiatives and innovations and provide technical accounting expertise. Market Complexities Diageo North America is the leading premium drinks business and one of the best-performing CPGs across the United States and Canada. We spend more than $2 billion a year on goods and services and have made major investments in innovation and sustainabilityLeadership Responsibilities: There is a wide array of senior stakeholders both in North America business unit and at the Group with whom great, effective, supportive and challenging business partnership relationships are essential in order to achieve all objectives and fulfil all the accountabilities of the role. Key stakeholders are the Group Controller, FP&A, Group Treasurer, Group CFO, market FD’s, RFD’s, Controllers, Filings and Assurance Committee, Business development & Strategy, Audit Committee, Investor Relations, Group Tax, HR (performance and reward) and external auditors.Purpose of Role: The purpose of this role is to provide high quality financial support to the Regional FD and regional Finance team and demonstrate brilliant business partnering to support the region to achieve the finance mission. Act as main contact within the Controllers Group for North America for resolution of complex technical issues with the wider finance community. Supporting the Group from technical accounting perspective in major projects/transactions, ensuring full compliance with technical regulatory requirements (Annual Report, Press Release and various other statutory filings (20-F, 6-K, implementation of new accounting standards, etc). The role also responsible to the regular update of the group accounting policy and analysing the impact of the new accounting regulations.Top Accountabilities: Liaise with internal stakeholders (North America and Group) and the auditors to make sure all technical matters are discussed and resolved well in advance of the closing of the reporting period. Prepare accounting papers for accounting issues/.events Provide ad hoc support to projects, transactions, provide technical accounting support to markets. Preparation of accounting papers supporting Diageo’s accounting treatment on complex accounting issues. Taking ownership for such issues and working with markets to drive and achieve the best outcome for Diageo. Regular update of the group accounting policy and analysing the impact of the new accounting regulations. Provide training to the North America teams on the updates and changes in accounting policy and applications Ensuring compliance with external reporting standards, Board approved policies, treasury guidelines, statutory and management requirements maintenance of daily operational controls and governance over area of responsibility. Support preparation and review of the Group Annual Report, Press Release, 20F and 6-K with particular focus on compliance with IFRS and other external reporting obligations. Ensure key stakeholders sign-off (Group Controller, Group Chief Accountant, Head of Investor Relations, CFO). Investor relations support – working with IR team, support external announcements Good business partnering with markets and senior stakeholders to ensure timely reporting and technical issue resolution Liaison with the group auditors for the interim, annual and Sarbanes-Oxley audits. Ensure accurate accounting of pension related transactions, accounting Qualifications and Experience Required: Qualifications: University degree, (preferably Finance/Accounting area) Professional qualification is a must (CA, ACCA, CPA) Experience: Overall work experience of 15 + years in Financial reporting, GAAP reporting with minimum 7 years of relevant experience in preparing, review accounts under IFRS Strong accounting, reporting and treasury knowledge Exposure to and experience of working effectively with senior stakeholders Experience of Sarbanes-Oxley/CARM compliance Competencies: Analytical skills, able to identify and understand overall business drivers Good understanding of Diageo processes, systems and applications, ability to oversee complex processes and identify improvement opportunities Communications skills (verbal and written). Ability to clearly articulate and support ideas and recommendations to internal and external stakeholders, peer groups and senior management Ability to engage and motivate others to drive solution.
