Information products (also called Info-Products or IP’s), are just what the name implies. They are products that are made up of information. This may be your own information or a compilation of other people’s information. (With their permission obviously.)
Once you have a website, or a blog site, you are set up to sell information products. This can include ebooks, online courses, PDF’s, software, or any product that can be downloaded from the Web. It can also include teleclasses – in other words any items that aren’t physical in nature.
It used to be that you had to go through a publisher or printer to create a book or manual. Or when creating teaching and instructional materials, you were burning CDs. Now the Internet allows you to distribute this information as a digital download. Adding a secure, online payment option requires little additional work to set up.
If you are an internet marketing newbie some of this may sound a little daunting. However, it is all much simpler than it appears at the outset. Whether you are a newbie or veteran, consider information products as a great source of revenue. They require low start up costs and little ongoing work. Once the product is created your work is completed. Now you can sell it an infinite number of times at no additional cost.
Think of your own areas of expertise. What do you know about? Gardening? Flower arranging? Auto repair? Quilting? Nutrition? Whatever it is, think about how you can communicate that expertise. Perhaps it will be with blog entries, and then the blog entries can evolve into an eBook. Or you can write short articles which will lead your prospects to your website where your product(s) is presented.
Information can be presented as a free report offered on your landing page. This is a great way to draw the prospect to your website.
Remember that you can also sell other people’s information through resale rights products. This will help if you feel you have no propensity, or time, to write your own materials.
Decide if your informational products are to make a profit up front, or to be used as a lure to draw prospects to your website. (This being the place where your flagship product(s) is offered.)
No matter which way you use informational products, they are definitely an avenue you dare not overlook in your quest to earn money through your own home-based business.
