As a Patching Engineer will use knowledge of systems and database management products and services to support the IT infrastructure. This role requires the Patch Engineer will be responsible for delivering system & database patching and upgrade services to Global Infrastructure. Patching process documentation will be required. The candidate will also be responsible for interacting with application counterparts on a regular basis and serving as the technology expert on the infrastructure behalf. This service is delivered via remote support and the candidate should be able to work in an independent environment while interacting with other team members remotely.
Responsibilities include:
- Develop and optimize pre- and post- patching process to ensure proper implementation without any outages.
- Score each patch based on risks & opportunity to prioritize. Identify which patches are more valuable to the organization than others.
- Coordinate patch schedule with other teams such as patch team, infrastructure management, security operations, governance & risk. Communicate project and operational metrics.
- Thorough testing of patches in a non-Production environment. Must be able to think ahead to avoid business outages based on the lab results.
- Able to remediate vulnerabilities. Often, it will require more than patches like changing register values, working with the firewall group. Requires research capabilities with intellectual curiosity to figure out how to remediate vulnerabilities
- Exposed to diverse IT technologies, naturally, to come up with recommendations to remediate any vulnerabilities in Infrastructure environment, including but not limited to Storage, Network, Security and computing servers and devices.
- Able to work with product vendors to come up with suitable patch recommendations without risking systems.
- Assist in the process for vulnerability and patch management ensuring they are compatible with the company’s business needs and strategic objectives
- Review and analyze new requests, work with IT partners, vendors, and business leaders to understand patch management needs; Partner on solutions and recommendations for business initiatives based on application requirements
- Research, evaluate, develop, design and implement patch remediation designs and standards following industry best practices
- Develop and implement patch and vulnerability remediation process including package creation, testing and deployment.
Core/Must have skills
Bachelors degree and 5+ years of systems engineering experience is required.
In lieu of degree, 3 years of systems engineering experience.
UNIX administrative experience, VMWare, Linux and WINTEL (Solaris, AIX a plus)
Experience in multi-tier architecture environment required High-level skills in database upgrades and patching and general computer programming and demonstrated experience in database analysis, scoping, data and process mapping.
Knowledge of Patching with Ansible and Tanium
Direct experience in one or more of the following technical specialties: network, compute, storage, platform, middleware, and/or database.
Experience automating tasks associated with technical specialties.
Experience leading data center projects and initiatives.
Supports automation script development and the optimization of those scripts.
Proficiency in scripting of packaged installation of patches, software and configuration changes, including power shell automation to improve patch management processes
PMP, ITIL, and Six Sigma certificates is a plus
Good to have skills
Excellent written and verbal communication; must be able to communicate technical solutions to senior management
Passion for achieving excellence in technical, process, product quality and reliability.
Knowledge of Infra security in the context of Patch management
