Job description: The Performance Engineer will deliver end-to-end platform and application performance engineering, with deliverables including application and infrastructure design review, code profiling (client, application, service and backends), FMEA, and performance testing. This position will need to partner with development teams early in the SDLC to identify optimizations for APIs, micro-services, and applications. This position will need to define key Service Level Indicators (SLI) and Service Level Objectives (SLO) as key measures of application health and stability.
Responsibilities:
- Ensure optimally performing production applications by establishing application and transaction SLAs for performance, implementing proactive application monitoring, alarming and reporting, and ensuring adherence to and measurement against defined SLAs.
- Work closely with Development Leads/Architects on designing/implementing code optimizations.
- Provide technical consulting and mentoring to team members on optimization techniques, new algorithm design, implementation, and conformance to architecture standards.
- Provide for proactive performance issue identification and root cause analysis.
- Identify and standardize performance engineering, testing and certification approach and success criteria including governance of performance test executions, analyzing performance test results and identifying tuning/optimization opportunities based on test results.
- Produce performance testing workload definition and analysis, factoring in known or projected volumes and transaction mix, to ensure coverage of critical business transactions.
- Engage technology stack owners for results analysis, product tuning, and recommendations implementation.
- Establish application performance baselines and re-evaluate them at least quarterly based on Organic/Additional growth.
- Monitor/Report trending application performance and identify opportunities for optimization in the application as well as components in the technology stack.
- Integrate with Business Analyst and Solutions Architects to Drive Performance throughout the Project Lifecycle and define Non-Functional Requirements related to Performance & Capacity.
- Be detail oriented and deliverable focused. Should be prepared to work extra hours (including weekends) on an as needed basis with relatively short notice to meet deliverables.
- Be able to lead a team of employees and contractors in delivery of end-to-end platform and application performance engineering.
Qualifications:
- This position requires a Bachelors Degree or higher.
12+ years of Information Technology experience, ideally in Financial Services, with specialty in the area of Enterprise-scale Application Performance Engineering and Optimization.
- Strong technical background in performance tuning and optimization of large global multi-tiered applications.
- Understanding of architectural concepts around Cloud Computing and base software Development
- Experience with service-oriented platform development using JAVA, JEE, Spring Framework, Pivotal Cloud Foundry, and Tibco. Experience with load testing tools, profiling tools, Tuning.
- Experience with monitoring tools like AppDynamics APM, Splunk. Experience performance testing distributed systems projects with in-depth experience on J2EE framework, Oracle relational databases, Middleware and understanding of open systems.
- Strong analytical and problem solving skills; ability to provide hands on technical support and analysis on as needed basis.
- Excellent verbal & written communication, inter-personal, facilitation and presentation skills are essential to succeed in this position.
- Be able to work well in a team with strong leadership, communication, and
presentation skills.
- Ability to be a high-impact player on multiple simultaneous engagements.

- Bachelor’s/University degree, Master’s degree preferred
