Job description: OVERALL FUNCTION

The Digital content and publishing analyst is responsible for the conception, development, and management of the Wolters Kluwer India Health portfolio of medical, nursing and allied health content published in various digital formats. The portfolio consists of adapted and original titles. Digital formats might range from eBooks to quizzing to workflow solutions. Conception of products includes working with product management on customer insight and putting together business cases for new products, new editions, or enhancements. Development includes recruiting authors and ensuring the acquisition and timely delivery of high-quality content and potentially technology. Management includes ensuring titles and products meet revenue and profit targets. This person will be responsible to manage and develop the content acquisition pipeline and publication of that content in multiple formats. The Digital content and publishing analyst must have experience managing content acquisition and a proven track record in content acquisitions and product development – print & digital.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Business and Product Development

  • Lead the acquisition/ development of content/ products for Health in digital format and develop acquisition strategy for select health areas in digital front thereby managing the program by interfacing with both internal and external stake holders.
  • Coordinate and evaluate financial profiles for new opportunities or business renewals.
  • Establish relationship and rapport with potential targets and bringing them to the table for discussion regarding acquisition or partnership.
  • Lead and manage new product or new partnership proposals (i.e., proprietary adoptions, portals, clinical solutions/ practice offerings expansion).
  • Where possible, work with the team to convert South Asian reprints to adaptations to increase market share and reduce arbitrage of reprints to US market, offering digital ancillaries.
  • Work with product management to gain deep insight into end user needs from faculty, students and others involved in buying and using our products.
  • Provide input into marketing and pricing decisions.
  • Assist with marketing, e.g., by engaging authors in marketing activities, attending events, etc.
  • Conduct competitive analysis and monitor emerging market trends to identify areas for differentiation and improvement wrt digital portfolio.
  • Transform and reposition appropriate print products to digital.
  • Develop strategic priorities based on industry/competitive analysis, idea generation, and market research.
  • Collaborate with key GGM personnel, including product management, marketing, sales, operations and finance teams to identify and enhance new revenue opportunities or operational efficiencies.
  • Establish effective relationships & management with international & national KOLs for various formats of medical content and theme-based projects.
  • Ensure offerings adhere to process frameworks and all documentation is maintained appropriately for each product.
  • Collaborate with HLRP colleagues as appropriate.
  • Keep abreast of industry developments, competitive positioning and future trends in digital product delivery.

P&L accountability and overall strategy of assigned segment

  • Build and drive growth in the local health publishing portfolio through expansion of education portfolio (developing local, reusable and exportable content in electronic – ancillaries) in assigned segment.
  • Ensure Revenue & Margin goals for all digital products are met or exceeded.
  • Manage individual product and portfolio P&L; work with cross-functional teams to enhance financial analysis and projections.
  • Negotiate sound author/ subject matter expert(s) contracts (new and renewal), including preparing and analyzing financial data.
  • Proactively adjust product plans to improve/achieve performance (cost containment & reallocation of resources as needed).
  • Evaluate all products, feature sets and mediums for best possible financial performance/pruning when necessary.
  • Create and maintain P&L and overall strategy and performance of the assigned segment in education/ clinical solutions. The role provides a strong opportunity to perform as a digital lead for the local publishing program in various segments of operation.
  • Market understanding including internal products’ knowledge, competitor offerings; monitoring latest trends and offerings in the segment.
  • Conduct market research and portfolio analysis to identify evolving needs of customers and business opportunities, and accordingly assess which segment/ subject area to develop.
  • Achieve yearly commissioning and front list targets, ensuring commercial viability of proposed projects through robust research and ascertaining market acceptability.
  • Manage training program of Sales team on products as per requirement of team, supervise and guide the Training expert to deliver trainings as per business requirements.
  • Provide Marketing with Product support for the focus areas/ products/ ancillaries to create awareness, engagement and thereby driving adoption.

Strategy

  • Evaluate models for best revenue opportunities for products. Evaluate existing products and recommend renewal, digitisation or pruning.
  • Set editorial direction based on market opportunities and potential for growth.
  • Develop a clear direction for the development and delivery of digital content which will lead the market based on educational and practice needs.
  • Contract negotiation and budget setting.

Communication and engagement

  • Effectively manage internal/external editorial resources and relationships to ensure operational efficiency.
  • Collaborate effectively within a matrix organization.
  • Attend industry events including new media programs to enhance skills & knowledge in digital publishing.

Enhance Local Solutions with new Product offerings

  • Develop new product strategy; conceptualize, develop product vision and lead development for local offerings (digital) based on identifying gaps and local needs, in alignment with the Company’s overall strategy
  • Build Publishing pipeline for the VSP period.

Job Qualifications

Education: Postgraduate, preferably in healthcare related or allied health sciences field, with excellent communication skills

  • 8+ Years of experience preferably in STM industry
  • Experience creating and managing digital products, including products that go beyond eBooks
  • Experience in management and execution of major projects with strong problem solving and leadership skills
  • Demonstrates organizational and planning skills while exhibiting detail-oriented behavior
  • Demonstrates knowledge of digital trends in healthcare markets
  • Excellent writing, communication, negotiation, and presentation skills
  • Passionate about online media & product development
  • Understanding of medical and scientific content and solutions
  • Project management experience is must
  • Ability to liaise with all customers, cross functional teams
  • Strong Analytical skills – analyze industry trends and impact, product performance
  • Strong project management skills, organizational skills, initiative, and the ability to prioritize, set and meet deadlines
