General Summary:

Job Overview
Qualcomm’s Engineering IT Operations team has an opening for a lead Site Reliability Engineer. In this role, you will manage Strategic Automation projects, rapidly prototyping and continuously deploying applications and back-end systems in a fast-paced Engineering environment.

GENERAL SUMMARY:
Performs IT functions such as design, analysis, evaluation, testing, debugging and implementation of applications programs supporting company business processes and operations. Analyzes, installs, acquires, modifies and supports operating systems, schedulers, High performance computing orchestrators or utilities software. Plans, conducts and directs the analysis of business problems esp. pertaining to operations resiliency to be solved with automated systems. Analyzes, designs, acquires and implements projects for High Performance Grid Systems. At higher job levels, may contribute to the development, testing, evaluation or design of system or infrastructure architecture used throughout the IT solution set.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Serves as a technical partner on a feature or system,works on more assigned tasks to complete your project, including these functions:

+ Build/deploy/maintain self-service applications, in-house developed automation tools – contribute through creativity to innovate new processes, procedures, or work products within guidelines or to achieve established objectives.
+ Participate in project review sessions to communicate project status and discuss complex issues.
+ Collaborate with EDA, Engineering, and IT partners to ensure new systems and/or applications operate according to user requirement specifications.

  • Communicates with project lead and internal teams via email and direct conversation to overcome obstacles and resolve any problems.
  • Identifies technical issues that affect a project or other areas of an overall system and synthesizes issues into an appropriate document for discussion with the appropriate audience (e.g., project lead, other team leads).
  • Presents system solution or other technically complex information within and outside of project team.
  • Troubleshoots and debugs issues with networks, systems, and/or applications by completing complex root cause analyses, and escalates issues both internally and externally as needed.
  • Monitors and analyzes overall availability and performance of Compute Clusters, Attached Storage, Operating systems and/or software applications to ensure customers can access necessary systems and/or applications, and looks for trends and makes recommendations for improvement.
  • Networks with colleagues outside of the system function to gain insight, ideas, and connections.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
2+ years of Grid Scheduler, preferably LSF along with Python programming focused on automation (infrastructure automation is a plus)
2+ years of experience with automation/config management tools like Ansible, Chef/Puppet, Terraform
Hands-on experience with infrastructure as code setup
Power user level working knowledge of Linux
Experience developing and building containers like Docker (knowledge of Singularity is a plus)
Working knowledge of container orchestration platform like Kubernetes
Experience developing solutions in a geographically distributed team setup
Experience creating and maintaining live documentation of infrastructure and associated components
Experience operating with a large scale on-premises infrastructure
Experience developing automation with a cloud provider (AWS/GCP/Azure)

Min. Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree and 10+ years IT-relevant work experience

Preferred Qualifications• ITIL foundation certified

  • Excellent verbal, written, and presentation skills Required to work to a high standard, be self-motivated and work well in a team
  • Desired Profile Bachelor of Science in Computer Science or another related field. 10 to 14 years hands-on experience administering Grid Schedulers in large semiconductor design environments.
  • Have good customer service experience and can clearly and concisely convey useful information Proven ability to work within a geographically dispersed team and as a self-directed team leader representing a team of highly qualified individual contributors.
  • Spectrum LSF, EDA tools, Altair Flow tracer and License Scheduler experience.
  • Good insight to the Electronic Design Automation (EDA) and the semiconductor design process Experience developing solutions for complex computing resource management requirements. Ability to leverage grid performance metrics for troubleshooting and optimizing computing environments Deep knowledge of Grid best practices and expertise of configuration options, capabilities, limitations, troubleshooting and performance tuning
  • Thorough understanding and practical knowledge of high-performance computing environments and distributed resource management concepts and solutions, particularly within the EDA space
  • Experience with formal Change management processes preferred Strong interpersonal and cross-cultural collaboration skills •

  • Anticipates complex issues and discusses within and outside of project team to maintain open communication.
  • Works directly with internal business partners to ensure new systems and/or applications operate according to user requirement specifications.
  • Documents solutions and common processes.
  • Monitors computer operating system and/or software application availability and performance by ensuring customers can access necessary systems and/or applications.
  • Networks with colleagues within and outside of domain of expertise to gain insight, ideas, and connections.
