GS Global Labs Engineer The Elevator Pitch: Why will you enjoy this new opportunity This Global Labs Engineer position provides unique opportunities to work with the entire VMware software stack utilising it for our internal production systems along with out of the box thinking to come up with different use cases in our everyday tasks. You will be installing & configuring the VMware products for use in our clouds & on our physical equipment, utilising our automated systems as well as hands on when required. You will be encouraged to bring new ideas to the table as well as polishing existing systems approaches to benefit the team as a whole. You will be a part of a team of highly experienced VMware engineers who are also experts in the fields of physical servers, storage, switches & networking. The team has developed ground breaking automated systems to roll out automated installations of VMware products both within our clouds and our physical server infrastructure. You will be an integral part of this team bringing your ideas & expertise to the table. It is an exciting role for a person who enjoys tech & coming up with new ways of using it. Success in the Role: What are the performance outcomes over the first 6-12 months you will work toward completing Gaining an understanding & appreciation of our infrastructure & being able to fully utilise the Global Labs systems & offerings. You will become proficient in upgrading & installing cloud infrastructure & have a solid understanding of the physical environments they are installed on. You will have had the opportunity to partake in regular system updates & had some of your own ideas put into practice. You will have had training on our systems & have a good understanding of them. With your scripting skills, you will have worked on or with various automation projects with the rest of the team, which will be an integral part of your role. What type of work will you be doing What assignments, requirements, or skills will you be performing on a regular basis You will be a fully-fledged systems engineer working on our internal infrastructure which fully utilises the VMware software stack, along with third-party solutions for the various physical infrastructures. You will be utilising your networking skills on our physical switch infrastructure as well as our NSX systems. Your storage skills, both VSAN & SAN, will be used on a daily basis to ensure our systems are functioning to their fullest capabilities. There are regular installations of physical equipment which you will be assisting in within our Datacentre. Assisting our customers with any cloud vApp issues and physical installations via the internal VMware HelpNow ticketing system. We are a truly global team so you will be participating in our team meetings on a weekly basis as well as communicating with all the team members via MS Teams, Slack & email daily. You will be working on projects which suit your profile and work with the team to develop new processes & ideas. As the Global Labs team offers both virtual & physical environments you will be working on physical equipment both hands on & remotely as well as working with our clouds & vApps which are located in our various global locations in APAC, EMEA & NASA. Scripting & automation is key to this role as we have & continue to automate many of our processes. What is the leadership like for this role What is the structure and culture of the team like You will be a member of the Global Labs team of engineers comprised of qualified VMware & Third party engineers, all tenured between 4 to 12 years within VMware. The Global Labs team is spread throughout VMware offices including Bangalore India, Cork Ireland, and Broomfield USA. The Global Labs Manager is located in Cork Ireland.
