Objective: To reviews the patient’s file and translates everything from that file into universal codes required by insurance companies.

Position: Medical Coder

Location: Delhi or Noida, India

Type of Work: Full time, permanent

Work Hours: Monday to Friday, 9:00 AM – 6:00 PM Eastern Standard Time (UTC -5)

The role and responsibilities:

Summary: The medical coder is responsible for translating medical terminology into unique and professional codes for medical personnel and insurance companies to understand and interpret in the course of carrying out their duties. It’s the medical coder’s responsibility to make sure the right code is used every single time. It’s the only way to ensure the insurance companies are billed properly.

Accounts for coding and abstracting of patient encounters, including diagnostic and procedural information, significant reportable elements, and complications.

Analyze patient charts carefully to know the diagnosis and represent every item with specific codes

Collect health information as documented by medical specialists and code them appropriately

Reviews and verifies documentation support diagnoses, procedures, and treatment results.

Ensure that codes tally with doctors’ diagnosis

Assigning CPT, HCPCS, ICD-10-CM, and ASA codes where applicable.

Consult medical specialists for further clarification and understanding of items on patient charts to avoid any misinterpretations

Identifies diagnostic and procedural information.

Audits clinical documentation and coded data to validate documentation supports services rendered for reimbursement and reporting purposes.

Assigns codes for reimbursements, research, and compliance with regulatory requirements utilizing guidelines.

Identifies discrepancies, potential quality of care, and billing issues

Requirements:

Two to three years of experience as a medical coder in a medical office setting.

Knowledge of insurance guidelines including HMO, Medicare, Medicaid, and other payers’ requirements and systems.

Showcase good written and oral communication skills

Good analytical skills

Proficiency in computer skills including typing speed and accuracy

Ability to pay attention to detail

Ability to work in a team

Knowledge of medical terminology is likely to be encountered in medical claims.

Maintain patient confidentiality
