Leads engineering functions as they relate to the planning, design, integration, test, deployment and support of products. Assists with testing and operational activities. Job Description Lead DevOps Engineer (4) – Core Application Platforms As a Sr DevOps Engineer working in the Core Application Platforms (CAP) team, you will be building next generation application building blocks to help other teams with faster delivery of reliable, performant, and scalable software products! In addition to bringing your own software development expertise, you’ll be working with and mentoring colleagues at all levels and helping us design and deliver next-generation platforms for successful projects. The Project: Comcast is developing several internal facing tools and platforms to improve developer experience. The key platform that you will be directly contributing to is a DNS management platform that provides safe and convenient access and editing of records, zones, etc. As an engineer in this project, you will be developing a crucial platform that aids in the adoption of best current tools and practices for software delivery. The software developed and deployed using this platform will, in turn, support millions of customers and handle billions of transactions a day. As part of this project team, you will be responsible for the following: Developing application code, tools, and plugins to support the building of the solution described above Enabling the adoption of the solution using a combination of training, documentation and client engagement tasks Operating the solution as a highly available, performant, scalable and multi-tenant platform We are actively seeking a diverse set of candidates to join our team. The CAP Team: We value usable and working solutions now over a perfect solution later We value using good enough open-source software over perfect commercial software We value diversity of opinion over group consensus We value being able to pursue a plan together over everyone agreeing that the plan is the best one We value context and responsibility over management visibility and direction We start from the assumption that someone, somewhere has already figured out a solution to this problem we value using their results over rediscovering them ourselves We value actively and humbly seeking and appreciating honest feedback over preserving our egos We value making decisions with research and reason over tradition or fear we are fans of the scientific method We value building it right over building it fast Responsibilities: In addition to the project specific responsibilities, other general responsibilities include: Mentoring colleagues at all skill levels Writing tested, production-ready application code Writing appropriate levels of documentation Participating in joint design and architecture sessions Building effective deployment and monitoring systems Operating and supporting production environments (including on-call support) Performing code reviews Participating in software release and deployment activities Coordinating constructively with other team members Preferred Qualifications: 6+ years of relevant work experience, including excellent software development and systems engineering knowledge BS in Computer Science, Computer Engineering or equivalent work experience Deep knowledge of deploying and debugging in Linux container environments Deep understanding of security best practices Experience with AWS services Experience with Docker, Kubernetes, Ansible and Terraform Experience in at least 3 of these categories of language families: Object Oriented (e.g. C++, C#, or Java), Scripting (e.g. Python, Perl, Ruby, PHP), Systems (e.g. C, golang), and Functional (Lisp, Scala, Clojure, Haskell, F#, ML) Understanding of DNS and how it is configured. Experience developing and operating solutions at high scale, performance and reliability Experience with software development methodologies and practices UNIX/Linux background: facility with command-line utilities familiarity with system administration tools and concepts a plus.
