As our global footprint continues to grow, we are looking for a Modeling and Simulation Research Engineer with a focus on thermal and fluid flow to join our team in Bangalore, India.

What you’ll learn & achieve:

JOB FUNCTION:

Under general direction, performs engineering work in Research and Development including pre-processing and post processing of simulation projects, as well as the documentation of the simulation inputs and key output parameters.

Assists in conducting studies and analysis to determine the feasibility of various engineering approaches. Defines concepts and criteria to resolve major problems in current programs or approaches.

Plans and conducts simulations to measure the body of scientific knowledge on topics related to hazard based safety engineering.

Projects require substantial knowledge of state-of-the-art engineering principles and theories and uses professional concepts and procedures to solve a wide range of research-based problems.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • As a CFD expert (Research Engineer) you will work on heat and fluid solutions that directly impacts product safety and performance, integrate the insight generated through simulation for product compliance as per the Safety Standards and Regulations.
  • Identifies fundamental knowledge needed to enhance UL’s industry and standards position and support the strategy of the aligned categories.
  • Need to understand and work closely with other disciplines, key internal and external stakeholders to deliver totally integrated solutions and strategies.
  • Support different cross functional teams in understanding product performance, safety, and risk margins through insights generated by modeling and simulation.
  • Plan, design and complete initial scoping and follow-up procedures as needed for complete independent Verification and Validation – from the simulation until validation of the results.
  • Collaborates with industry, academics and other research and development staff to apply the results of research used to develop new techniques, products, practices, and UL Standards.
  • Maintain and develop extensive knowledge of current and new technologies for new products, as well as current needs and trends.
  • Stay ahead of changing technologies in the field by reading journals and scientific publications, attending academic conferences, writing, and collaborating on original publications, and delivering presentations on research engineering topics.
  • Have a team player mindset, giving priority to team goals and maintaining good team relationships.
  • Read and follow the Underwriters Laboratories Code of Conduct and follow all physical and digital security practices.
  • Collaborate with key stakeholders and provide timeline communications to both internal and external stakeholders.
  • Provide technical assurance and expertise to support safety assessment of products.
  • Author technical research and customer reports covering all information and details about modeling strategy, approach for result and outcome.
  • Specific area of work include: Electronic Cooling, Refrigerant Leakage, and Building Fire.
  • Perform other duties as directed.

What makes you a great fit:

  • University Degree in engineering, or other related technology in a thermal and fluid flow with mechanical engineering and allied branches background.
  • 7 years or more relevant work experience
  • Extensive experience in an industrial/R&D environment in the area of fluid flow, conjugate heat transfer and computational fluid dynamics.
  • CFD Experience in species transport models/multiphase and thermal analysis.
  • Experience in model validation and verification (V&V) is an added advantage.
  • Knowledge of project management and its tools.
  • Expert in commercial Computational Fluid Dynamics software packages like Ansys Fluent, Ansys CFX, ANSYS FLUENT Meshing, FloEFD, FlowTherm, ANSYS ICEPACK and OpenFOAM.
  • Additional advantage of candidate having exposure in Fire and Fire Dynamic Simulator.
  • A proven track record of collaboration working across teams, disciplines, and regional boundaries.
  • Pro-active and independent in getting work done; a proven self-starter.
  • Demonstrated general knowledge of engineering disciplines.
  • Demonstrated ability to maintain engineering based academic and applied knowledge and skills.
  • Ability to collaborate with peers and work directly with Principal Engineers, Project Mangers, Engineers, Lab Technicians, Scientists, and other team members to complete a project from start to finish.
  • Excellent communication and report writing report skills required.
