Ciena is looking for a skilled, highly motivated senior technical writer. We’re looking for a problem solver with excellent language skills who will write easy-to-understand installation guides and online help. You’ll also create upgrade guides, configuration guides, and other user assistance to help our customers use our products.
Responsibilities:
- You will create and maintain user documentation for Blue Planet products.
General Activities:
- Write, maintain, and improve customer documentation
- Supplement documentation with relevant graphics and examples
- Work with minimal direction toward predetermined goals, and be able to quickly become proficient with new tools and software
Collaboration with stakeholders
- You will interact with developers and customers to identify and close gaps in documentation.
- You’ll participate in our learning community, recognize trends and topics of interest, and create content that meets the needs of our customers.

- You’ll be integral to the success of our customers.
Requirements
- Excellent writing, editing, grammar, and verbal communication skills and a strong attention to detail
- Experience writing for external audiences, and aptitude with both technical documentation and training guides
- Ability to plan, schedule, and be flexible while meeting tight deadlines
- BA/BS degree or equivalent practical experience
- 5 years experience planning and writing customer-focused documentation for software audiences
- Ability to meet tight deadlines with multiple deliverables
- Great communication skills
- Nice to have: Familiarity and comfort with Git, Markdown, and other documentation tools
