Risk is one of PayPal’s core competencies and is a key contributor to the company’s profitability and the customer value proposition, which is focused on secure payments. The Risk team is responsible for the global approach to assessing various buyer-side and seller-side risks that PayPal takes on (including identity fraud, seller fraud, account takeover, and credit) and the treatments, actions, and experiences triggered by the results of the Risk assessment and used by PayPal to control losses. The product management team in Risk Platform builds innovative products to manage Fraud Risk

Responsibilities

The goal of the Risk Platform team is to deliver time-to-market improvements, cost reduction, and quality improvements in support of Risk initiatives and solutions.

Platform Capabilities

  • Define and drive the next-generation disputes experience required to support the growing needs of PayPal
  • Own the investment and roadmap for Risk Platform build-out
  • Define and build the experience with product development and architecture.
  • Maintain and support the product, ensuring definition and ongoing monitoring of product KPIs for both Financial and Regulatory Risk
  • Have a keen interest in being hands-on on higher-level tasks (design, analysis)
  • Readiness to be in our users’ shoes – be the level one users of the product and capabilities
  • Create use cases and product requirement documents to articulate desired service features and functionality to the user experience and technology teams for both tactical project delivery and long-term strategic direction of Risk service capabilities.
  • Gain a deep understanding of customer experiences and preferences and funnel the requirements to build a scalable infrastructure than goes beyond channel/device.

Integration

  • Be an expert on Risk and Compliance Platform within PayPal
  • Understand Integration needs (internal systems and external); assimilate and synthesize the needs of various stakeholders into a common set of platform capabilities and Platform
  • Partner with other groups within and outside Risk to define business goals and metrics, understand Platform capabilities, leverage existing solutions, or implement and deploy new solutions and product capabilities
  • Assess buy vs. build and work with 3rd parties to integrate Risk Platform on a case-by-case basis

Team Leadership

  • Lead by influence, with strong execution skills and focus.
  • Ongoing focus on Risk business knowledge; ability to constantly prioritize and deal with ambiguity.
  • Lead project teams of engineers and designers to ensure that the product solution delivers to requirements and meets business needs
  • Collaborate across business and technical areas to manage all aspects of the Risk Platform
  • Present business case, product roadmaps, and strategies to key stakeholders and executives
  • Creates new metrics to measure customer insights as needed. Helps more junior PMs understand key customer insights. Gathers insights about competitor’s customers
  • Persuades leadership with verbal arguments. Thinks and responds to questions in real-time, varying the approach based on audience needs and reactions
  • Sought after to help attract, hire and retain talent across product roles. Cultivates talent through career mentorship.
  • Works with product development and quality engineering team leads to consistently manage multiple products to planned milestones with high quality. Effectively plans resources based on priorities and constraints

  • Introduce new products, programs, policies, and procedures to achieve business strategies
  • Source and develop strategic relationships with industry partners and alliances
  • Drives innovative solutions to cross-domain product gaps or misalignment of goals. Learning to make difficult trade-off decisions under stress. Reputation for getting things done.

Requirements

  • 3 to 4 years of Product Management experience or related field, including technical product management, software development, or analytics. Total experience of 4 to 5 years.
  • Prior people management experience preferred. Preferably managed Product Managers. Technology management is also fine.
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in a relevant field, such as Computer Science
  • MBA Preferred
  • Ability to understand and appreciate the engineering and analytical solutions. Understanding of web technologies, SOAP, XML, WSDL, Java, relational databases. Experience developing/working with API sets and Platform.
  • Skill sets: analytical, problem solver, strategic planning, leadership, project management and execution, communication with diverse audiences and stakeholders, (written, verbal, and oral)
  • The candidate should bring a high level of enthusiasm to the projects, the ability to organize and motivate large groups, and a high degree of passion for technology
  • Demonstrated track record managing all aspects of a successful software or technology product throughout its lifecycle, including product strategy development, requirements definition, product marketing, and product P&L ownership
  • Experience with SOA, Data repositories/warehouses, Disputes, Case Management systems (Pega) and processes, Rules Engines (Blaze), or payments or risk management is a strong plus.
  • Previous Technical Product management a plus
