Department Description

The Global Client Computing (GCC) Engineering team is responsible for engineering and delivering solutions and infrastructure to support Fidelity’s global desktop, laptop, virtual desktop and thin client estate. The estate includes around 20,000 on-premise and cloud-hosted virtual desktops, 3,000 PCs, 6,500 laptops and 9,000 thin clients and supporting infrastructure across 26 countries.

Purpose of the role

The incumbent will be a member of the Global Client Computing (GCC) Engineering Team, The primary focus of the role is engineering, troubleshooting and delivery of the following:

  • Performance Management, End User Experience monitoring and investigations, and automated testing solutions
  • Global infrastructure solutions as required for the end user computing estate
  • Windows 10/11 group policy, security hardening, build optimisation, least-privilege access, profile management, application packaging solutions and integration required to keep our current estate updated and operating efficiently.
  • Microsoft Modern Desktop, including AutoPilot and Intune management.
  • Azure engineering and automation for GCC workloads (such as VDI and SCCM)
  • Application packaging and delivery solutions to optimise the delivery of applications to remote laptops and non-persistent VDIs. This will include evaluation of solutions such Microsoft AppAttach, delivery of applications to Autopilot laptops using Intune, and wider use of our XenApp estate.
  • User Environment Management solutions for the Windows 10 estate (such as Enterprise state roaming) in order to improve logon speed, limit the use of group policy for user preferences and improve user experience.
  • Automation solutions for the management, deployment and maintenance of our global VDI estate (on and off-premise) as required

Candidates will work closely with other service areas within Technology such as Network, Data Services, IT Security Engineering, Project Office, Architecture, CDO and Regional Desktop Support teams to ensure that appropriate tools and processes are in place to aid in their operations and improve time to market where possible.

Further to this, the role will include training others as part of a centre of excellence, looking to bring up skills across the organisation and ensure consistent standards.

Key Responsibilities

Responsibilities will be wide ranging across the Global Client Computing space. These may include (but are not limited to):

  • Delivering EUC Projects as required (often as part of a global project team)
  • Maintaining and improving our Nexthink EUX Monitoring platform
  • Providing escalation support and in-depth investigation capability for the GCC group
  • Engineering solutions to help automate Evergreen processes including:

Self-service testing capability for application support and development teams to consume

Adoption of Windows Update for Business

Self-service laptop provisioning mechanism (AutoPilot) * Developing and maintaining PowerShell scripts and PowerShell DSC used to automate the provisioning of objects and services in Azure, Citrix, Windows 10, Configuration Manager

  • Providing technical administrative and configuration support for Microsoft Azure platform
  • Ensuring systems and automated processes are designed with high availability and data protection in mind.
  • Maintaining support documentation and issue tracking using Confluence and Jira

Experience and Qualifications Required

  • Extensive technical experience covering the following:
  • High level of expertise with PowerShell
  • Enterprise level Configuration Management
  • Enterprise level Group Policy and Active Directory implementation and troubleshooting skills
  • Windows 10
  • Troubleshooting and optimisation skills in an Enterprise environment
  • Strong understanding / experience of the following products/technologies:
  • User Environment Management solutions
  • Citrix XenApp and XenDesktop
  • Active Directory, Group Policy, Azure AD
  • Virtual Desktop Infrastructure
  • End User Experience Monitoring tools such as Nexthink
  • WAN / LAN technologies and principles
  • Microsoft Intune
  • Office 365
  • Remote access technologies and troubleshooting
  • Experience with the following is an advantage:
  • PowerShell DSC
  • Application packaging and deployment solutions such as App-V, FlexApp, MSI and MSIX
  • Microsoft Azure
  • System Centre Configuration Manager (Current Branch)
  • Use of Terraform for building infrastructure as code in Azure
  • Enterprise Mac configuration and management using JAMF
  • Citrix NetScaler
  • PKI infrastructure – Certificate Management
  • Windows Server 2012 R2/2016
  • Ability to deliver custom solutions (via automation or other products) to address non-standard requirements or provide additional value
  • Strong documentation skills, communication skills and flexible team player
  • MS certification an advantage
  • Service oriented, with a disposition to take responsibility
  • An ability to work under pressure and to tight deadlines, whilst following standard change control procedures
  • Organised with good attention to detail
  • Structured and methodical in problem solving
  • Flexibility to travel between locations
  • Banking or Finance related business experience desirable
