About the role
The Data Platform Engineering Team at PayPal is looking for a highly talented, self-driven and proven database engineer who will be responsible for new database builds, deploying changes to production databases while maintaining DB availability targets, oncall support, implementing security policies, working on various NoSQL implementations and contribute to automation of processes. Partnering with peers in product development and other operational teams to enable business and deliver projects. Working with vendors to manage support SLA’s. Experience in understanding and awareness in an Incident/Problem management process and procedures in driving integration, improvements, documentations, and support strategies in operational environment. Work with cross functional operations teams for incident and problem management. Expert in Oracle database technologies and familiarity with MySql, PostgreSQL or any NoSql databases like Aerospike, MongoDB, Cassandra, and Couchbase would be preferred.
Requirements
- Expert in database products, lifecycle management, agile methodologies, and database architecture
- Drives architecture discussions, proposes solutions to data structure/database architecture changes that are directly related to their area of focus.
- Proactively finds the potential database issues and takes initiative to address them in a timely fashion.
- Explores the automation opportunities for repeatable tasks and recommend/implement the solutions in collaboration with the appropriate teams.
- Provide Database support, engineering, Infrastructure build and release management services
- SQL review/tuning and suggest areas of improvements
- Experience in any of the scripting language using Shell, Python is a must
- Good to have experience in other database technologies (PostgreSQL, MySQL, Aerospike, Cassandra, MongoDB or Couchbase), exposure to automation platform tools like Ansible, Jenkins, Git Lab or Puppet, and experience in any of the Public Cloud solutions will be preferred
- Customer focused, willingness to document, enhance process-oriented approach and strive to achieve PayPal’s availability goals
Basic Qualifications
9+ years of experience in Oracle Database Administration building and managing highly scalable, highly available, and performant systems with understanding of incident/problem management.
